Strategies and Tips: Email as a Marketing Tool

Strategies and Tips for Using Email as a Marketing Tool

Emails are a very popular way among society for people and colleagues to talk over the internet effectively. From sending a reminder to a person, to sending a PowerPoint or Zoom meeting, emails have a wide variety of uses. Today we will be talking about an advanced way of using emails, and that is how to use them as a marketing tool.

What is Email Marketing?
According to Forbes, "Email Marketing is a digital communication strategy where businesses send emails to a list of subscribers to promote products, share news, or provide valuable content. It's a personalized, cost-effective way to reach customers, build relationships, and drive sales".
Why is Email Marketing Important?
There are many reasons as to why email marketing is important for businesses. Another article from Forbes can help businesses see the benefit of using email marketing. To start, Email Marketing is very cost-efficient, since emails are free to send, unlike advertisements you would post, they are able to reach a large amount of customers for pretty much free. This leads to the businesses being able to customize the advertisements for each customer. Since the advertisements are through emails, they are able to customize more than just one, which allows each advertisement to be customized towards consumers. Next, with email marketing, businesses are able to track data of different customers, such as which consumers respond, open, and share the email. This gives the businesses an inside look at what consumers like and don't like. Additionally, it increases brand awareness since sending emails is free and very easy to do. Businesses can send many more marketing emails to reach a bigger audience, increasing brand awareness. Lastly, this takes us to the contact list. With paid advertisements, consumers could be very active one week and not active at all the next week. However, Leeron Hoory, an author for Forbes claims that " With email marketing, you know you'll be able to reach your audience regardless of any changes that happen on social media platforms and other forms of digital advertising". This allows businesses to consistently reach future customers and original customers always through emails because most people check their email very often and will see the advertisement.
Tips and Strategies
After seeing what email marketing is and why it is a key way of advertising for businesses, we can get into some tips and strategies to do email marketing effectively. Forbes has a great article about some tips and strategies to do this effectively, I will be describing the 5 tips and strategies they give.
1. Segmentation and Personalization: If businesses are able to spend little money and customize lots of different advertisements for their consumers through emails it is a win because they are spending less money than normal advertisements and personalizing them. Personalizing advertisements, it helps boost consumer engagement and be able to appeal to the consumers in a way that would connect with them more, which would then lead to them buying the product or service you are selling.
2. Automated Email Campaigns: Businesses will be able to have automated emails, such as introduction emails, from special events to coupons. Allows businesses to consistently keep their consumers entertained and make them feel active within the business.
3. Mobile Optimization: With personal phones becoming more and more popular within society, having emails sent directly to the consumer allows them to view the email whenever, wherever. With businesses making mobile emails, simple, clear, and having an obvious call-to-action, it allows for the best engagement from the consumers.
4. A/B Testing: This is when businesses separate their consumers into 2 different groups and send them 2 different types of emails. This allows the business to see which type of email attracts the most consumers, whether that is through the amount of clicks, opens, or purchases. This also allows the business to adjust their types of advertisement based on the data given.
5. Interactive Emails: When sending emails to consumers, it is very important that emails are not just plain and boring. They need to be eye-catching and engaging. They could be engaging through many different ways such as polls, surveys, questions, and even short clips.

This email advertisement is very interactive and eye-catching for many reasons. To start is the color, yellow is a color that pops and draws your attention. The reason it is interactive is because of the survey offering $10 for completing it, which entices the consumers.
My Thoughts
In my opinion, email marketing, if used correctly, can be a very beneficial tool for businesses to use. If businesses don't always send spam emails, make sure their content is very eye-catching, and also make sure that their email is interactive and enticing, then it could be a key influencer of their advertising for the business.
Not only are emails super easy to send and make, its also completely free. Personally, I am shocked that not many companies do this because it is free and an easy marketing project.
Overall, based on the information listed above. Email marketing is a very effective tool if used right and make a business climb to the top if the reach the right audience with these emails. If I were a business owner, I know I would for sure use email marketing to try and attract as many customers as possible!
